Cher Monsieur Cohen,

Marjo......xxxxxx

Soutiens-toi l'excellent ouvrage.

To the Man With the Golden Voice,

I hope that you have a great 65th. birthday and I know that you will have many more to come.

This day is as important to us, your fans, as it is to you. It is the day that God put on this troubled Earth a voice that would speak aboutthe normal day to day feelings (joy, gloom, love, lost hopes, etc.)to future generations.

Keep up the good work.

Cher Leonard,

Happy Birthday, Leonard !.

Love, Peace and Joy,
Patrice.

Dear Mr. Cohen,

A very happy birthday to you from New Orleans.
Having recently perused the Nadel biography, I was somewhat amused to learn that you once considered other career options.
I will take this opportunity to tell you that I am deeply, intensely, truly grateful that you did not become a lawyer or a Pinkerton detective.

Sincerely,

Dear Leonard Cohen:

This is a note of joyful gratitude that I send, not only for your birthday, but for the rich life you have shared with us, with me, for years. Especially, what I want to say is, thank you for the bouquet, the hard won flowers of intimacy and tenderness that you've unfailingly gathered and guarded for us, yet never trampled on, no matter how roughly picked, and for never apologizing for their thorns. You have knocked on the door of my consciousness with these gifts, and have become a treasure in my heart.

For all time, Mr. Cohen, if it be your will, dance me to the end of love.

Much love to you on your 65th birthday,
Rochelle

Dear Leonard... Finally I write. At least I have hope you will read this. (Patrice says you will, and I believe him.) I don't know what you do most... gladden or sadden my heart. In over 30 years I have not been able to decide. Only that every day I try to figure it out. All I know is... yours is the only music I can listen to every day and not get tired of hearing, that you are the only one who can make me feel things I didn't know were there, and who never bores me. But you are damn hard to sing along to, Mr. Cohen. Nevertheless... I manage to belt them out with you everyday in my car. It has been the best thing. So thank you, Leonard. You have given me one of the most wonderful things of my life. I wish for you the most wonderful birthday of all... and I hope you'll be in Montreal in May. Selfishly.

Loving you always... (even though it does sound ridiculously sappy)

I will never forget when I was in your wardrobe speaking with you and you signed the passport of my wife about 1980, when you've been in Germany.

Dear Mr Cohen (a.k.a. Birthday Boy)--

I cannot claim to have been moving with your words for the past 30 years because I have not been around for nearly that long... But just to let you know, you have some very dedicated teenage/college fans in Vancouver who desperately need to experience you in concert (just a crude hint...)

I hope you enjoyed your special day. I enjoyed listening to all the Leonard Cohen Birthday programmes on CBC! THANK YOU for being a mentor in all my own attempts, for making *all* my days special.
